ONGOING RESEARCH PROJECTS
CONCHIUS CHINA EXPAT project aims at developing a tool that can be used to evaluate an individual’s suitability for expatriation as a middle manager to China.
BACKGROUND
Expats are needed to provide needed technical expertise, cover a local skills shortage, act as a level of control, and be a carrier for corporate culture and working processes. It is a complex and important job. However, selecting who to send is difficult as failure can be very expensive - both for the company and on a personal level. Selecting the right individual is therefore a critical decision.
While the most important selection criterion for expatriates has traditionally been technical competence, unsuccessful expatriates usually cite technical ability as the least important reason for failing to do their job. Both companies and expats need a reliable tool for predicting future job performance and to provide awareness of potential challenges.
This study focuses on expat middle managers. The reason for this is that middle managers are very exposed to cross cultural differences in their daily work.
BENEFITS
The mission of the research project is to provide a reliable means for…
- Predicting future job performance with high accuracy
- Providing awareness of a candidate’s job specific strengths and challenges
- Managing personal and professional development by focusing on appropriate areas of improvement and growth
- Simplifying and speeding up the company’s selection process
By identifying high performers that are suitable for expatriation companies can avoid the costs of failure and increase productivity.
